Removal (Metro)

  1. Disable SIR system (Metro convertible). Refer to AIR BAG PRECAUTIONS  . Remove steering wheel. Refer to, under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD  . Remove combination switch (turn signal/dimmer) assembly. See COMBINATION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Disconnect ignition switch harness connectors from junction/fuse block. See Figure . Remove 4 steering column mounting bolts. Remove retaining bolt from upper steering shaft joint. Remove steering column. See Figure and Figure .
  3. Using center punch and power drill with 3/8" or larger drill bit, remove 2 mounting bracket shear bolt heads. See Figure . Remove ignition switch/column lock housing from column.
