Removal (1.6L SOHC)

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove alternator and power steering pump drive belts. Using Engine Support Fixture (J-26900-9) or equivalent, support engine.
Remove engine mount located at timing belt cover. Remove 4 upper timing belt cover bolts. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right (passenger) side under cover from wheelwell.
Remove timing belt cover bolts and cover from vehicle. See Fig 1 .

Rotate crankshaft and position No. 4 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure timing mark on camshaft sprocket aligns at the 9 o'clock position (with edge of cylinder head). Remove timing belt cover. See Fig 2 . Dowel pin must be at 12 o'clock position.

Raise and support vehicle. Remove crankshaft pulley center bolt. Remove 4 crankshaft pulley bolts. Remove pulley from vehicle. See Fig 1 .
Loosen timing belt tensioner retaining bolt. See Fig 3 .

Lower vehicle. Rotate belt tensioner and remove timing belt. Remove camshaft sprocket (if necessary).
