Removal (1.8L)

  1. Remove upper intake manifold. See UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove oil cooler pipe clip retaining nuts located below lower intake manifold.
  2. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cover fuel lines with shop towel, and disconnect fuel return and supply lines. Remove fuel rail retaining bolts. See Figure . Remove fuel injector wiring harness bracket retaining bolts.
  3. Remove fuel rail, with fuel injectors attached, from lower intake manifold. Disconnect electrical connectors from vacuum switching valve on lower intake manifold. Remove lower intake manifold bolts/nuts. Remove lower intake manifold and gasket.
