Removal (1.6L)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect control cables, coolant hoses and air intake duct from throttle body.
  2. Disconnect breather hose from air intake duct. Disconnect vacuum hoses from upper intake manifold. Disconnect EGR vacuum hoses, oxygen sensor wiring connector and necessary electrical connections.
  3. Disconnect heater hoses and upper radiator hose. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cover fuel lines with shop towel, and disconnect fuel return and supply lines.
  4. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right lower engine cover. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Remove PCV hoses from valve cover. Remove spark plug wires from clip. Remove valve cover bolts and valve cover. Remove cylinder head bolts, cylinder head and gasket.
