Valve Seat

  1. Measure valve seat margin from combustion chamber surface with a NEW valve installed. If measurement exceeds limit, replace valve seat or cylinder head. See CYLINDER HEAD table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
  2. To replace seat, arc weld a rod to valve seat at several points. Allow seat to cool, then slide hammer seat out of head. To install, heat cylinder head, cool valve seat with dry ice, and press into cylinder head.
  3. After insertion, grind seat to finish face. Lap valve to seat, then check contact pattern.
