Valve Arrangement

Rear of vehicle - Intake valves.

Front of vehicle - Exhaust valves.

  1. Remove rocker arm cover. Rotate crankshaft clockwise and align timing notch on crankshaft pulley with "0" mark on timing tab. Remove distributor cap and ensure rotor is at 3 o'clock position. This position indicates engine is at compression stroke, TDC No. 1 cylinder.
  2. Using a feeler gauge between rocker arm and valve stem, check intake and exhaust valve clearance on cylinder No. 1. After adjustment, tighten lock nut to 11-13 ft. lbs. (15-19 N.m).

    Hot .011-.013 (.28-.32)
  3. Rotate crankshaft an additional 240 degrees clockwise and align timing notch on pulley with lower left attaching bolt of timing belt outer cover. Check valve clearance for cylinder No. 3.
  4. Rotate an additional 240 degrees clockwise from left attaching bolt and align timing notch with lower right attaching bolt. Check valve clearance for cylinder No. 2. Install distributor cap, rocker arm cover and air cleaner.
