Removal & Installation: Knuckle: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle, allowing suspension to hang freely. Remove wheel. Remove brake drum. See WHEEL BEARINGS .
  2. Remove brake line from steering knuckle bracket. Disconnect brake line from wheel cylinder. Remove backing plate bolts and backing plate. Place jack under lower control arm for support.
  3. Reference mark inboard toe-in alignment cam on control rod for installation. Loosen nut on control rod inboard nut. Remove nut on outboard side of control rod, and remove control rod from knuckle.
  4. Remove steering knuckle strut pinch bolt. Slide knuckle off strut. If strut will not come out of knuckle, open slit of knuckle (as little as possible) with a wedge. See Figure. Remove lower control arm-to-knuckle bolt and nut. Remove knuckle.
