Removal & Installation: Knuckle: Installation

  1. Install knuckle on strut. Align strut projection with knuckle slit. See Fig 1. Install strut pinch bolt and nut, but DO NOT tighten yet. Align knuckle with lower control arm and install securing bolt and nut.
  2. Tighten strut pinch bolt on knuckle. Tighten lower control arm-to-knuckle bolt and nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article. Apply sealant to mating surface of brake backing plate and rear knuckle. Install and tighten brake backing plate bolts.
  3. Install brake line. Install control rod, but DO NOT tighten nuts at this time. Install brake drum assembly. Install NEW spindle nut and tighten to 74 ft. lbs. (100 N.m). Stake new spindle nut.
  4. Install wheel. Lower vehicle to normal riding height. Tighten control rod nuts to specification. Bleed and adjust brakes. Check rear toe-in. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in the WHEEL ALIGNMENT Section.
