Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation
- Coat camshaft with engine oil before installing. Install camshaft in cylinder head so camshaft sprocket pin is at 6 o'clock position.
- Apply sealant on cylinder head-to-camshaft bearing cap surfaces on No. 1 and No. 3 camshaft bearing caps. Install camshaft bearing caps so arrow points at timing belt end of engine.
- Coat camshaft bearing cap bolts with engine oil and install. Tighten bearing cap bolts in sequence. See Fig 1. Tighten camshaft bearing cap bolts evenly in several steps to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
- Coat camshaft oil seal with engine oil. Install oil seal until it is even with bearing cap surface. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
CAUTION:
DO NOT rotate or start engine for approximately 30 minutes after installing camshaft. Valve lifters must obtain correct operating clearance or damage to pistons will result.
