Section 15 (1.0L 3-CYL - VIN [5] & 1.0L 3-CYL Turbo - VIN [2]): Overhaul: Crankshaft: Installation

  1. Apply engine oil to all crankshaft journals and bearings. Install main bearing halves into cylinder block and main bearing caps. Install bearing caps with arrow pointing toward crankshaft pulley side.
  2. Tighten bearing caps to specifications in 2 or 3 steps. Begin tightening sequence with No. 1 cylinder bearing cap (crankshaft pulley side). Tighten in numerical order (1, 2, 3, 4) toward rear bearing cap No. 4. After installation, ensure crankshaft turns freely by hand. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table at the end of this article.
  3. Apply oil to lip of rear main oil seal and install oil seal housing and gasket. Tighten housing bolts. Cut edges of gasket so it is flush with cylinder block. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Check all engine fluids and adjust valve clearance.
