Section 15 (1.0L 3-CYL - VIN [5] & 1.0L 3-CYL Turbo - VIN [2]): Overhaul: Crankshaft: Inspection

  1. Inspect crankshaft for wear or damage. Measure crankshaft for out-of-round and taper with a micrometer. Out-of-round or taper must not exceed .0004" (.01 mm).
  2. Mount crankshaft in "V" blocks and measure crankshaft using a dial indicator on No. 2 journal. If runout exceeds .0023" (.06 mm), replace crankshaft.
  3. Position crankshaft in cylinder block with bearings and journal bearing caps installed. Using a dial indicator, measure crankshaft end play. Standard end play measurement is .0044-.0122" (.112-.310 mm). Maximum end play is .015" (.38 mm). If specifications are exceeded, replace thrust bearing.
  4. Inspect main bearings for pitting, scratches, wear or damage. If any of these conditions are found, replace entire set of bearings. Check oil clearance of main bearings using Plastigage method.
