Prizm GSi: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect electrical connections, speedometer cable and control cables at transaxle. Disconnect throttle valve cable at throttle body.
- Remove thermostat housing-to-transaxle retaining bolt. Remove 2 upper transaxle-to-engine bolts. Disconnect battery ground cable at transaxle. Using Engine Support Fixture (J-28467-A), support engine.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove lower engine covers. Remove nut and washer from ends of axle shafts at hub assemblies. Remove tie rod nut from steering knuckles. Separate tie rods from steering knuckles. Remove lower ball joint-to-steering knuckle bolts. Separate lower control arms from steering knuckles.
- Remove brake caliper and rotor from steering knuckle. Using brass hammer, tap on axle shaft until it is free of hub assembly. Using slide hammer, and Shaft Puller (J-35762), pull axle shafts from transaxle.
- Drain transaxle. Remove bolts from transaxle mounts. Disconnect and plug oil cooler lines from transaxle. Remove center crossmember. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold.
- Remove starter motor. Disconnect engine-to-transaxle support bracket. Remove drive plate cover.
- Remove torque converter-to-drive plate bolts. Support transaxle with jack. Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts. Lower transaxle from engine.
