Shift Interlock System

Battery voltage is supplied from 15-amp ECU-IG fuse in fuse block to shift lock control module when ignition is on. Fuse block is located near kick panel on driver's side. Shift lock control module is located below center console, in front of parking brake.

When brakes are applied, a voltage signal is delivered to shift lock control module from brakelight switch. Also a signal is delivered to shift lock control module from shift lock control switch when shift lever is in Park. Shift lock control switch is located below the shift lever.

When shift lock control module receives signals from brakelight switch and shift lock control switch, indicating brakes are applied and shift lever is in Park, shift lock module then supplies voltage to shift lock solenoid. Shift lock solenoid is energized and shift lever can be moved from Park position. Shift lock solenoid is located below center console, in front of parking brake.

NOTE: For testing of shift interlock system, see SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM under ELECTRICAL TESTING  .
