Wheel Bearing: Installation
- Press new bearing into steering knuckle. Place outside inner bearing race on outside bearing. Drive new outer oil seal into steering knuckle. Apply sealer to dust cover and steering knuckle connection before assembly.
- Install disc brake splash shield on knuckle. Press axle hub into steering knuckle. Install snap ring in steering knuckle hole. Drive new inner oil seal flush to steering knuckle end surface. Install dust cover. Install and tighten splash shield bolts.
- Apply light coat of grease to oil seal lips. Seat ball joint into steering knuckle by tightening old ball joint castle nut to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m). Remove nut, and install a new nut. Tighten new nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article.
- Install steering knuckle on vehicle. Install drive axle hub lock nut and washer. DO NOT fully tighten nut. Tighten ball joint-to-lower control arm to specification. Install disc brake caliper. Apply brakes and tighten drive axle hub lock nut to specification.
