Removal (Cressida & Supra)

- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect transmission throttle cable from throttle linkage and remove cable housing from bracket. Disconnect cable from rear of engine. Raise and support vehicle. Drain transmission fluid.
- Disconnect all electrical connectors that lead to transmission (located near starter). Index mark drive shaft flanges before removal. Disconnect drive shaft at differential flange and remove both sections as one assembly with center bearing support.
- Disconnect catalytic converter from tailpipe and remove rubber hangers. Remove pipe clamp from transmission housing and remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
- Remove oil cooler pipe clamp from transmission housing, and disconnect oil cooler lines at transmission fittings. Remove oil filler tube and disconnect manual shift linkage at rear connection. Disconnect speedometer cable and remove stiffener plate(s).
- Remove bellhousing cover and manually rotate crankshaft to remove 6 torque converter bolts. Secure transmission jack under transmission and raise enough to remove weight from transmission mount.
- Disconnect ground strap and remove crossmember and transmission mount from vehicle. Place rag between steering gear housing and engine oil pan to prevent damage. Remove starter motor and all transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Separate transmission along with torque converter from engine. Ensure that all cables and electrical harnesses are free from snagging when lowering transmission from vehicle.
