Sending Unit Check

  1. Connect voltmeter to Yellow/Black wire connector of temperature gauge sending unit. Turn ignition on. Ensure Yellow/Black wire is supplied with about 4.5 volts from gauge. If not, repair wiring circuit. See appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS  section.
  2. If voltage supply to sender unit is good. Remove sending unit from lower left of radiator. Measure sending unit resistance in heated water. See Figure . Resistance should decrease as water temperature increases. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE  table. If resistance does not vary as specified, replace sender.
