Gauge Check

  1. Disconnect Yellow/Green wire connector at coolant temperature sending unit. Sending unit is mounted on top of thermostat housing, located below distributor. Connect test light between Yellow/Green wire connector and ground. Turn ignition on. Test light should glow dimly and gauge pointer should fluctuate toward hot.
  2. If gauge pointer is inactive, remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure instrument cluster electrical connectors are unplugged. Connect ohmmeter leads across temperature gauge terminals "G" and "H" on back of instrument cluster. See Fig 1 . Resistance reading should be 56 ohms. If resistance reading is not as specified, replace gauge.
