Headlight/Dimmer Switch (Prizm)

  1. Headlight switch completes ground for headlight and taillight relays. Remove lower dash panel trim cover.
  2. Disconnect combination switch harness 14-terminal connector near steering column. Turn headlight switch on. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between ground terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire) and terminal No. 13 (Red/White wire). See Fig 1 . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace combination switch assembly.
  3. Check continuity between ground terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire) and terminal No. 2 (Light Green wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace combination switch assembly.
  4. Move dimmer switch to low-beam position. Check continuity between ground terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire) and terminal No. 3 (Red/Green wire). Ensure continuity exists. Move dimmer switch to high-beam position. Check continuity between ground terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire) and terminal No. 12 (Red/Yellow wire). Ensure continuity exists. If continuity is not present in either test, replace combination switch assembly.
