Air Bag Precautions: Notes

Air bag is also known as Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. For more information, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. Disable SIR system, as follows, whenever working around steering column to prevent accidental air bag deployment.

WARNING: Disconnect battery negative cable before attempting any steering column repairs. DO NOT apply voltage to any component or harness connector on steering column without disabling SIR system. Follow precautions to prevent accidental air bag deployment, personal injury, and unnecessary SIR system repairs.
