Removal (Metro)

  1. Disable SIR system (convertible). See AIR BAG PRECAUTIONS  . Ensure front wheels are straight. Disconnect negative battery cable. Pull horn switch/center pad assembly from steering wheel. See Figure and Figure . Use cloth-covered, flat-blade screwdriver to pry horn switch/center pad assembly from contact plate (if necessary).
  2. Remove contact plate screws. Disconnect wires and remove contact plate. Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Mark steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference. Using steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel. See Figure .
