Removal & Installation (Storm)

  1. Disable SIR system. See AIR BAG PRECAUTIONS  . Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove left instrument switches panel, cigarette lighter panel, and hood release panel. Remove lap air deflector and lower instrument panel/knee pad assembly.
    NOTE: Before removing SIR coil from combination switch, mark SIR coil-to-steering shaft position for reassembly. Use extreme care when handling SIR coil.
  2. Remove steering column upper bracket mounting bolts. Lower column and remove steering column covers. Mark SIR coil-to-steering shaft position for reassembly reference. Remove SIR coil-to-combination switch screws. Remove SIR coil unit. Use extreme care when handling SIR coil. Remove combination switch-to-ignition switch/housing screws. Disconnect combination switch harness connectors. Remove connectors from column.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Press lock cylinder retaining pin inward on ignition switch/housing, and pull lock cylinder from housing. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Remove snap ring, spacer collar and back drive cable from housing. Remove housing-to-column retaining bolts and slide housing from column. See Fig 1 .
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering column upper bracket mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m).
