Ignition Switch & Lock Cylinder: Installation

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Align ignition switch/column lock housing with steering shaft slot. See Fig 2 . Ensure ignition switch/column lock is in shaft slot, and install shear bolts. Tighten bolts until heads break off.
  2. Check ignition switch and column lock mechanism operation. Install steering column. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering shaft joint bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 N.m) and steering column bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m). Activate SIR system (convertible). See AIR BAG PRECAUTIONS  .

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Align ignition switch/column lock housing with steering shaft slot. See Figure . Ensure column lock is in steering shaft slot. Install shear bolts and tighten until shear heads break off.
  2. Check ignition switch and column lock mechanism operation. Install steering column. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering shaft joint bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 N.m) and steering column-to-dash support bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m).
