Removal & Disassembly

  1. Remove timing belt and crankshaft sprocket. See TIMING BELT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. On Prizm, remove front exhaust pipe. On all models, remove oil pan. On Prizm GSi, remove oil baffle. See OIL PAN under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Remove dipstick from oil pump housing. Remove oil pump retaining bolts and remove oil pump. Remove oil pump cover from rear of oil pump. Remove oil seal from oil pump housing. Remove snap ring, spring and relief valve from oil pump housing.
