Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE in this article. Mark and remove hood. Disconnect battery cables.
  2. Drain cooling system, engine oil and transaxle oil. Remove cooling fan, radiator and air cleaner assembly. Disconnect necessary electrical connections, vacuum hoses, fuel lines and coolant hoses at engine and transaxle.
  3. Disconnect accelerator cable at throttle body. Raise and support vehicle. On M/T models, disconnect clutch cable and shift control rod from transaxle. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold.
  4. On A/T models, disconnect oil cooler lines and control cables at transaxle. Disconnect torque rod bracket from transaxle.
  5. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle. Remove front wheels. Remove staked area from axle shaft nut at hub assembly. Remove nut and washer from axle shafts.
  6. Remove ball joint-to-steering knuckle bolt. Separate ball joint from steering knuckle. Using 2 screwdrivers, pry axle shafts from transaxle case. Separate axle shafts from steering knuckle assemblies and remove.
  7. Support engine with hoist. Disconnect engine and transaxle mounts. Remove engine and transaxle assembly.
