Removal & installation (Metro Convertible)

  1. To disable SIR system, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove access cover at back of steering wheel to access Yellow 2-pin SIR connector. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip on Yellow 2-pin connector at back of steering wheel. Disconnect Yellow 2-pin connector. Wait 10 minutes before working on vehicle.
  2. Ensure front wheels are straight-ahead. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air bag module from steering wheel. Disconnect ground wire from horn pad. Always store air bag module with the pad side up.
    WARNING: When moving or carrying air bag module, ensure outward side (pad surface area) is away from you. DO NOT  store air bag module upside-down. Accidental deployment could cause serious injury. Store air bag module with pad surface upward and away from work area. DO NOT  disassemble or tamper with air bag module.
  3. Remove screws and contact plate from steering wheel. Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Place reference marks on steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference. Using steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel.
