Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Inspection

  1. Inspect components for damage. Measure camshaft lobe height, and journal runout. Replace camshaft if not within specification. See CAMSHAFT SPECS TABLE at end of article.
  2. Measure cylinder head camshaft bore and camshaft journal diameter. Determine camshaft oil clearance. Replace camshaft/cylinder head if oil clearance is not within specification. See CAMSHAFT SPECS TABLE at end of article.
CAUTION: Before installing camshaft, ensure crankshaft sprocket timing mark aligns with oil pump timing mark to prevent valve-to-piston contact.
