Exhaust Manifold: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and raise vehicle. Remove turbocharger on EFI Turbo models. Remove exhaust pipe at manifold. Remove lower heat shield bolt. Disconnect secondary air pipe and remove A/C compressor drive belt (if equipped).
  2. On Turbo models, disconnect turbocharger assembly, pipes and intercooler.
  3. Lower vehicle. Remove A/C compressor lower adjusting brace (if equipped). Remove spark plug wires and O2 sensor wire from sensor and block. Remove exhaust manifold hot air shroud and hoses at secondary air valve.
  4. Remove secondary air valve and tubing. Remove exhaust manifold. Clean mating surfaces of manifold and cylinder head.
