Fitting Pistons & Rings: Installation

  1. Install piston rings with "R" or "T" mark facing upward. Position ring gaps. See Fig 1. Apply engine oil to pistons, rings, cylinder walls, connecting rod bearings and crankpins. Install a piece of hose over connecting rod bolt threads.
  2. Using Piston Ring Compressor (J-8037), compress rings. Position piston with arrow facing crankshaft pulley. Using a hammer handle, tap piston head to install piston into cylinder.
