Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

Fig. 14 Applying Sealant To Rear Seal Retainer:

1. Remove transaxle as described under TRANSMISSIONS CLUTCHES DIFFERENTIALS AXLES AND DRIVE SHAFTS/MANUAL TRANSAXLE/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/TRANSAXLE.
2. Disconnect exhaust pipe bracket.
3. Remove oil pan as described under OIL PAN SERVICE.
4. Remove rear retainer, then the rear main oil seal.
5. Clean retainer mating surface and apply suitable sealant as shown, Fig. 14.
6. Apply clean engine oil to seal lip, then install retainer and the seal using tool No. J-35264 or equivalent.
