Removal (Metro)

Hoist rear of vehicle and support with jack stands. Remove rear wheel and dust cap. Remove cotter pin, castle nut and washer from spindle.
Loosen parking brake cable adjustment nut and remove plug from backing plate. Insert screwdriver into hole and contact brake shoe hold-down spring. Push up on hold-down spring to release parking brake shoe lever from hold-down spring.
Remove brake drum using Slide Hammer (J 2619-01) and Remover (J 34866). See Figure. Remove hold-down springs, disconnect parking brake cable. Remove brake shoes. See Fig 1.
