Connecting Rod Bearings: Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1987 Chevrolet Sprint. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Inspect crankshaft journals for wear or damage. Measure journals for out-of-round and taper. If out-of-round or taper exceeds .0004" (.01 mm), replace or regrind crankshaft and select a proper oversize bearing.
  2. Inspect bearing shells for signs of pitting, burn or flaking and observe contact pattern. Bearings are available in standard and .010" (.25 mm) oversize.
