Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:
  • Be careful not to damage the parts located under the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank and canister) when raising the vehicle using the lift.

    (Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")

NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.

Information 

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  3. Remove the air duct.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  5. Remove the engine under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  6. Drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  7. Recover the refrigerant and then remove the high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air conditioning - "REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  8. Remove the engine room side cover (A).

  9. Remove the engine room cover (A).

  10. Remove the RH stut bar (A).

  11. Disconnect the first box connector (A) and then remove the main wiring protector (B).

  12. Remove the rear engine cover (A).

  13. Remove the wiring (A) from fuse box.

  14. Remove the ECM connectors (A) and ground cable (B).

  15. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  16. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and PCSV hose (B).

  17. Remove the steering U - joint mounting bolt.

  18. Remove the water cooled intercooler outlet hose (A).

    Information 

    • When disconnecting the intercooler hose, pull the quick connector clamp (A) in the direction of the arrow, as shown in the below illustration.

  19. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  20. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler reservoir tank over flow hose (A) and inlet hose (B).

  21. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler out let hose (A).

  22. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  23. Remove the engine ground cable (A).

  24. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  25. Remove the tension arm.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  26. Remove the lateral arm mounting bolt from the knuckle.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  27. Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolt and nut and then separate the propeller shaft from the transfer assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ")

  28. Remove the front driveshaft.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  29. Remove the transmission ground cable (A).

  30. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

  31. Remove the transmission mounting assembly (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolts, Nuts (B): 

    2WD (Nuts): 29.4 - 34.3 N.m (3.0 - 3.5 kgf.m, 21.7 - 25.3 lb-ft)

    AWD (Bolts): 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

    Bolts (C): 

    58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)

  32. Remove the front cross member mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb-ft)

  33. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

    NOTE:
    • Before removing the engine and transmission assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
    • When removing the engine and transmission assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
  34. Remove the transmission assembly from the engine assembly.

    (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  35. Remove the engine mounting support bracket mounting nut and then remove the engine assembly form the front cross member by lifting up the engine hoist.
