Engine And Transmission Assembly: Removal

NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, disconnect the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal from the trunk room.
  2. Loosen the drain plug and drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  3. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  4. Recover the A/C refrigerant and then remove the A/C compressor high pressure pipe (A) and low pressure pipe (B).

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation And Air Conditioning - "REFRIGERANT RECOVERY/RECYCLING/CHARGING/VACUUM ")

    Tightening torque:  21.6 - 32.4 N.m (2.2 - 3.3 kgf.m, 15.9 - 23.9 lb-ft)

  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  6. Disconnect the over flow hose (A).

  7. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose (A).

  8. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler inlet hose (A).

  9. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  10. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  11. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  12. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).

  13. Remove the engine room cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  14. Remove the RH strut bar (A).

  15. Disconnect the control wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Disconnect the front control connector (A) and wiring ground (B, E), protector mounting nut (C) and transmission control module (TCM) (E).

      Tightening torque:  (B): 7.8 - 10.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.7 - 8.0 lb-ft)

      (C): 4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

      (E): 10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

    2. Disconnect the engine control module (A) and then remove the wiring protector (B).

      Tightening torque:  4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

  16. Disconnect the engine ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque:  10.7 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 7.9 - 10.1 lb.ft)

  17. Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft.

    Tightening torque:  32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

  18. Remove the front muffler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")

  19. Disconnect the transmission ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque:  26.5 - 32.4 N.m (2.7 - 3.3 kgf.m, 19.5 - 23.9 lb.ft)

  20. Remove the front driveshaft.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  21. Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolt and nut and then separate the propeller shaft from the transfer assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ")

  22. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  23. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

  24. Remove the transmission mounting bracket (A).

    Tightening torque:  Bolt and Nut (B)

    2WD (Nut): 29.4 - 34.3 N.m (3.0 - 3.5 kgf.m, 21.7 - 25.3 lb-ft)

    AWD (Bolt): 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

    Bolts (C): 58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)

  25. Remove the front cross member mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque:  196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb.ft)

  26. Remove the engine and transmission assembly and front cross member by lifting vehicle.

    CAUTION:
    • Remove the engine and transmission assembly and front cross member horizontally. When removing, take care not to damage the front end module.
  27. Remove the transmission assembly from the engine assembly.

    (Refer to Automatic Transmission System (SBW) - "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM ")

  28. Remove the engine mounting support bracket mounting nut and then remove the engine assembly form the front cross member by lifting up the engine hoist.
