Removal And Installation

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
    CAUTION:
    • When lifting a vehicle using a lift, be careful not to damage the lower parts of the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank, canister).

    (Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
  2. Loosen the front wheel nuts slightly.

    Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  3. Remove the front wheel and tire.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")

  4. Remove the front brake caliper.

    (Refer to Brake System - "FRONT BRAKE CALIPER ")

  5. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor after loosening the mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  6. Loosen the brake hose bracket mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  7. Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  8. Remove the tie rod end ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  9. Separate the lateral arm (A) from the sub frame after loosening the mounting bolt and nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

  10. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  11. Remove the side cover (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  12. Separate the tension arm (A) from the sub frame after loosening the mounting bolt and nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

  13. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE:
    • If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  14. Loosen the caulking nut (A) from the driveshaft and then seperate the driveshaft from the hub assembly by using the plastic hammer.

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one.

    NOTE:

    • When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

      Caulking depth (A):  1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  15. Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  16. Remove the lateral arm ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  17. Remove the lateral arm (A).

  18. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  19. Check the alignment.
