LH Cylinder Head Assembly
- Install the LH cylinder head.
- Remove the hardening sealant, oil, cleaning residue, foreign materials remaining on the cylinder block and cylinder head.
- Apply liquid sealant on the top of the cylinder block.
Bead width: 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.07 - 0.11 in.)
Sealant locations: 1.0 - 1.5 mm (0.039 - 0.059 in.) from block surface
Sealant: MS 721-40 AA or AA0
NOTE:- Apply sealant by referring to the following illustration shown below.
- Install the LH cylinder head gasket (A) on the cylinder block.NOTE:
- Always use new cylinder head gasket.
- When install the cylinder head gasket, check the LH and RH mark on the cylinder head gasket.
- Apply liquid sealant on the top of the cylinder head gasket.
Bead width: 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.07 - 0.11 in.)
Sealant: MS 721-40 AA or AA0
- Carefully put the LH cylinder head (A) on the cylinder block to prevent damaging the head gasket.
Information
- Remove the extruded sealant after assembling the cylinder head.
- Install the new LH cylinder head bolts.
- Do not apply engine oil to the new cylinder head bolts.
- Recheck tightening torque 39.2 N.m (4.0 kgf.m, 28.9 lb.ft) of each LH cylinder head bolt, after installing a new LH cylinder head bolt according to the tightening torque 39.2 N.m (4.0 kgf.m, 28.9 lb.ft) in procedure down below.
Continuously tighten with angle tightening torque (120°) following the procedure in picture below after tightening with angle tightening torque (90°) with no stop following the procedure down below.
Tightening torque:
1st step: 37.3 - 41.2 N.m (3.8 - 4.2 kgf.m, 27.5 - 30.4 lb-ft)
2nd step: 118 ~ 122°
3rd step: 88 ~ 92°
NOTE:- Always use new cylinder head bolts.
- The engine running or pressure test should not be performed within 30 minutes after installing cylinder head bolts.
- Remove the extruded sealant of the cylinder head and cylinder block within 5 minutes after assembling cylinder head bolts.
- Install the LH cylinder head front bolt (A).
Tightening torque:
11.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.2 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.7 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Install the LH spark plugs.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "SPARK PLUG ")
- Install the hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) and swing arm (A).
- Place the LH cam carrier on the LH cylinder head.
- Remove the hardening sealant, oil, cleaning residue, foreign materials gathered in the bottom of the cam carrier and on the top of the cylinder head.
- Install the cam carrier O-rings (A) on the cylinder head.NOTE:
- Always use new cam carrier O-ring.
- Apply a continuous bead of liquid sealant to the bottom surface of the cam carrier, as shown in the illustration.
Bead width: 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.08 - 0.12 in.)
Sealant: MS 721-40 AA or AA0
- The dowel pins on the cam carrier and holes on the top of the cylinder head should be used as a reference in order to assemble the cam carrier in exact position.
- Install the LH cam carrier (A).
Tightening torque:
Bolts (B): 18.6 - 22.6 N.m (1.9 - 2.3 kgf.m, 13.7 - 16.6 lb-ft)
Bolts (C): 11.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.2 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.7 - 10.1 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Assemble the cam carrier within 5 minutes after applying sealant.
- Assemble the camshaft bearing cap within 5 minutes after assembling the cam carrier.
- The engine running or pressure test should not be performed within 30 minutes after assembling the cam carrier.
- After installing the cam carrier on the cylinder head, be sure to check the swing arm for separation and normal installation.
- Install the LH intake CVVT & camshaft assembly (A) and LH exhaust CVVT & camshaft assembly (B).
- Install the LH camshaft front bearing cap (A) and camshaft bearing cap (B).
Tightening torque:
18.6 - 22.6 N.m (1.9 - 2.3 kgf.m, 13.7 - 16.6 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Be careful not to change the position and direction of LH camshaft front bearing cap and camshaft bearing cap.
- Install the camshaft bearing caps in the sequence shown.
- Be sure to install the bearing caps in the correct place.
- Front mark
- (LH, RH head): L (LH), R (RH)
- (Journal): 1, 2, 3
- (Engine Type): A (ALL), T (T-GDI), M (MPI), G (GDI), L (LPI)
- Rotate the crankshaft until the pistons are located below the top of cylinder block so that it doesn't come into contact with the valves.
- Install the other parts reverse order of removal.
