Engine coolant

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

[When diagnostic tool is available, conduct coolant change and air bleeding following the below procedure.] 

  1. After coolant drain is completed, retighten the drain plug.
  2. Drain coolant in the reservoir tank and then clean reservoir tank.
  3. Install the coolant reservoir tank and then add the mixture of anti-freeze and water (45 - 60%) (except for North America, Europe and China: 45 - 50%)
    NOTE:
    • Fill coolant as far as possible with engine and all power supplies shut off.

      Coolant capacity 

      Approx.11.0 L (2.9 U.S.gal., 11.6 U.S.qt., 9.7 lmp.qt.)

    NOTE:
    • Push the upper/lower hoses on the radiator so that the air can get out easily.
    • Use only genuine antifreeze/coolant.
    • For best corrosion protection, the coolant concentration must be maintained year-round at 55% (except for North America, Europe and China: 45%) minimum. Coolant concentrations less than 55% (except for North America, Europe and China: 45%) may not provide sufficient protection against corrosion or freezing.
    • Coolant concentrations greater than 60% will impair cooling efficiency and are not recommended.
    • Do not mix different brands of antifreeze/coolants.
    • Do not use the additional anti-rust additives.
  4. Start the engine.
  5. Connect the diagnostic tool.
  6. Select the "Integrated Thermal Management Module Coolant Filling Mode" in the vehicle S/W management.

  7. Use the diagnostic tool to activate the "integrated thermal management module (ITM) coolant refill mode".
  8. Key-off and then disconnect the diagnostic tool.
  9. Additionally add coolant which has been consumed from the reservoir tank for 20 minutes.
  10. Install the reservoir tank cap (A).

  11. After running the vehicle and then check the coolant level.
  12. Add coolant if it is insufficient.
  13. Install the engine room front under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Disconnect the integrated thermal management module (ITM) connector (A).

    NOTE:
    • When disconnecting the integrated thermal management module (ITM) connector, be sure to recheck that the engine and all power supplies are shut off.
    • Be careful not to allow the static electricity and any other voltage are not applied to the integrated thermal management module (ITM).
    • Keep away the magnetic objects (Ex. magnet) from the integrated thermal management module (ITM).
  5. After starting the engine, additionally add coolant which has been consumed from the reservoir tank for 20 minutes.
  6. After engine off and then install the integrated thermal management module (ITM) connector (A).

    NOTE:
    • When connecting the integrated thermal management module (ITM) connector, remove oil and water from the connector completely and prevent foreign substance from entering the connector.
    • If replacement of the integrated thermal management module (ITM) is necessary, be sure to replace with a connector that conforms to the specifications.
  7. Start the engine.
  8. Check the operating sound of the integrated thermal management module (ITM) to see if it works properly.
    NOTE:
    • Integrated thermal management module (ITM) operating sound may be heard before or after the engine is started.
  9. Repeat engine ON/OFF and after checking whether the engine warning light turns OFF, erase the error code.
    1. Wait for 5 seconds with engine ON and then turn OFF the engine.
    2. Repeat the step  1 3 times.
    3. Check the engine warning lamp OFF when engine is turned ON fourthly.
    4. Delete the error code.
  10. Install the reservoir tank cap (A).

  11. After running the vehicle and then check the coolant level.
  12. Add coolant if it is insufficient.
  13. Install the engine room front under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
