Engine And Transmission Assembly: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, disconnect the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
  • Start the engine to release the pressure inside the fuel line. Then, remove the fuel pump relay. When the engine runs out of fuel in the fuel line and stops, turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal from the trunk room.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  3. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Loosen the drain plug and drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  5. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose and then drain the water cooled intercooler coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER COOLANT ")

  6. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  7. Recover the A/C refrigerant and then remove the A/C compressor high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    21.6 - 32.4 N.m (2.2 - 3.3 kgf.m, 15.9 - 23.9 lb-ft)

  8. Remove the engine room cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  9. Disconnect the control wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Remove the RH strut bar (A).

    2. Disconnect the front control connector (A) and wiring ground (B, C), protector mounting nut (D) and transmission control module (TCM) (E).

      Tightening torque: 

      (B): 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.7 - 7.2 lb-ft)

      (C): 10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

      (D): 4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

    3. Disconnect the engine control module (A) and then remove the wiring protector (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      B: 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.7 - 7.2 lb-ft)

  10. Disconnect the over flow hose (A).

  11. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler inlet hose (A).

  13. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  14. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and degassing hose (B).

  15. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).

  16. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  17. Disconnect the engine ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.7 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 7.9 - 10.1 lb.ft)

  18. Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

  19. Disconnect the transmission ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    26.5 - 32.4 N.m (2.7 - 3.3 kgf.m, 19.5 - 23.9 lb.ft)

  20. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  21. Remove the front muffler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")

  22. Remove the front driveshaft.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  23. Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolt and nut and then separate the propeller shaft from the transfer assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY ")

  24. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

  25. Remove the front cross member mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb.ft)

  26. Remove the transmission mounting bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolt and Nut (B)

    2WD (Nut): 29.4 - 34.3 N.m (3.0 - 3.5 kgf.m, 21.7 - 25.3 lb-ft)

    AWD (Bolt): 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

    Bolts (C): 58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)

  27. Remove the engine and transmission assembly and front cross member by lifting vehicle.

    CAUTION:
    • Remove the engine and transmission assembly and front cross member horizontally. When removing, take care not to damage the front end module.
    NOTE:
    • Before removing the engine and transmission assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
    • When removing the engine and transmission assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
  28. Remove the transmission assembly from the engine assembly.

    (Refer to Automatic Transmission System (SBW) - "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM ")

  29. Remove the engine mounting support bracket mounting nut and then remove the engine assembly form the front cross member by lifting up the engine hoist.
