CVVT And Camshaft: Inspection: Camshaft
- Inspect the cam lobe height.
Using a micrometer, measure the cam lobe height.
Cam Height
Intake: 39.5 mm (1.5551 in.)
Exhaust: 37.6 mm (1.4803 in.)
Inspect the cam lobe surface for abnormal wear and damage. Replace if necessary.
- Inspect the camshaft journal clearance.
- Clean the bearing caps and camshaft journals.
- Place the camshafts on the cam carrier.
- Lay a strip of plastic gauge across each of the camshaft journal.
- Install the camshaft bearing caps (A) and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: Step 1
M6: 4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.7 lb-ft)
M8: 9.8 - 11.7 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.6 lb-ft)
Step 2
M6: 11.7 - 13.7 N.m (1.2 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.6 - 10.1 lb-ft)
M8: 18.6 - 22.5 N.m (1.9 - 2.3 kgf.m, 13.7 - 16.6 lb-ft)
NOTE:- When installing the camshaft front bearing cap and camshaft bearing caps, tighten the bolts and nuts with pre-torque first, and then tighten the bolts and nuts with specified torque in the sequence shown.
NOTE:- Do not turn the camshaft.
- Remove the camshaft bearing caps (A).NOTE:
- Be careful not to change the position and direction of the camshaft bearing caps.
NOTE:- Remove the camshaft bearing caps in the sequence shown in figure below.
- Measure the plastic gauge at its widest point.
Tightening torque:
[Specified value]
No. 1 journal: 0.037 - 0.065 mm (0.00114 - 0.00224 in.)
No. 2, 3, 4, 5 journal: 0.037 - 0.067 mm (0.00145 - 0.00263 in.)
If the oil clearance is greater than maximum value, replace the camshaft. If necessary, replace cylinder head.
- Completely remove the plastic gauge.
- Remove the camshaft.
- Inspect the camshaft end play.
