Rear Propeller Shaft: Removal
CAUTION:
(Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
- When lifting a vehicle using a lift, be careful not to damage the lower parts of the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank, canister).
(Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
- Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
- Remove the center muffler.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "MUFFLER ")
- Remove the side under cover (A).
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb-ft)
- Remove the heat protector (A, B).
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb-ft)
- Remove the propeller shaft (A) from the transmission after loosening the mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Mark the location and direction of bolt and washer before removing the propeller shaft.
- Installing the bolt and washer differently from the initial state can result in unbalanced propeller shaft causing abnormal vibration of propeller shaft at high speed.
- Limp propeller shaft after removing propeller shaft or transfer or rear differential may damage the internal parts. Securely support the removed part to prevent limp propeller shaft.
- Do not reuse the bolts and lock nuts.
- Remove the center bearing bracket insulator mounting bolt (A).
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)
- Remove the propeller shaft (A) from the rear differential carrier after loosening the mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
NOTE:
- Mark the location and direction of bolt before removing the propeller shaft.
