Front Differential Carrier: Reassembly
- Using the round pipe (A), press in the pinion rear bearing (B).NOTE:
- Do not reuse the bearing. Be sure to install a new one.
- Install the pinion bearing spacer (B) at the pinion drive gear (A).NOTE:
- Do not reuse the spacer. Be sure to install a new one.
- Install the pinion front bearing race by using the SST (09231-93100, 09474-4J3000)NOTE:
- Do not reuse the race. Be sure to install a new one.
- Install the pinion rear bearing race by using the SST (09231-93100, 09474-4J200)NOTE:
- Do not reuse the race. Be sure to install a new one.
- Press fit the pinion drive gear and the front bearing (A) into the pinion cage assembly using a press.
- Install the pinion oil seal (A) by using the SST (09231-93100, 09474-4E300).
- Install the companion flange (A) by using the press.
- Install the differential carrier race by using the SST (09231-93100, 09432-3D900).
- Install the differential carrier oil seal by using the SST (09231-93100, 09452-1P100).
- Install the differential cover oil seal by using the SST (09231-93100, 09474-4J100).
- Install the differential cover race by using the SST (09231-93100, 09474-3D900).
- Install the side bearing using the SST (09473-D3700).
- Install the pinion cage shim (A).
- Install the pinion cage O-ring (A).NOTE:
- Do not reuse the O-ring.
- Be sure to install a new one. Apply some oil along the O-ring.
- Install the pinion cage (A).
Tightening torque:
34.3 - 37.3 N.m (3.5 - 3.8 kgf.m, 25.3 - 27.5 lb-ft)
- Tighten the lock nut to the specified value of the pinion bearing preload.
Pinion bearing preload:
1.2 - 1.8 N.m (13.0 - 19.3 kgf.cm, 0.9 - 1.3 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Maintain the constant speed rotation (60 rpm).
- Install the differential case assembly (A).
- Install the differential carrier cover (A) and then tighten to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 36.2 lb-ft)
NOTE:- In order to measure the total preload, assemble without applying the sealant.
- Check the backlash at the companion flange.NOTE:
- The thickness of both spacers shall be adjusted by disassembling again when the backlash is bigger or smaller than the tolerance.
- Increase the spacer thickness on the cover side by one unit and reduce the spacer thickness on the carrier side by one unit when backlash is bigger than the tolerance.
- Increase the spacer thickness on the carrier side by one unit and reduce the spacer thickness on the cover side by one unit when backlash is smaller than the tolerance.
- The adjusting unit of the spacer is 0.02 mm (0.0008 inch).
Hypoid gear backlash: 0.05 - 0.12 mm (0.002 - 0.005 inch)
- Apply sealant on the differential carrier cover and then install the differential carrier cover (A).
Tightening torque:
39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 36.2 lb-ft)
Sealant: LIQUID GASKET LT5060 equivalent
- Tighten the companion lock nut to the specified torque by measuring the total preload.
Total preload (reference value: Based on the assemblage of new part coated with anti rust oil):

- Install the drain plug (A).
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb-ft)
- Loosen the filler plug (A) and fill the oil
Oil type: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 SAE 75W85
(SK HK SYN GEAR OIL 75W85 Equivalent)
Oil capacity (L): 0.67 ± 0.025 (0.18 - 0.01 U.S.gal., 0.71 ± 0.03 U.S.qt., 0.59 ± 0.02 lmp qt.)
Filler plug tightening torque:
44.1 - 53.9 N.m (4.5 - 5.5 kgf.m, 32.5 - 39.8 lb-ft)
- Install the air breather (A).
Tightening torque:
1.67 - 9.02 N.m (0.17 - 0.92 kgf.m, 1.23 - 6.65 lb-ft)
