Front Differential Carrier: Disassembly
NOTE:
- The already adopted seam for controlling the inner bearing on the front differential assembly is used. (Use the same thickness controlling seam in case of destruction)
- The front differential assembly shall be replaced with new one when the differential carrier or differential case assembly is failed.
- The noise or vibration can be made due to the no matching of current inner bearing and gear control seam when the carrier or differential case assembly is exchanged as a unit.
- Remove the air breather (A).
- Drain oil by removing the drain plug (A) before remove the front differential assembly.
- Place the front differential assembly by using the SST (09474-4J400).
- Loosen the bolts and then remove the differential carrier cover (A).
- Remove the spacer and differential side bearing race (A) from the differential carrier cover by using the hammer and chisel.
- Remove the oil seal (A).
- Remove the differential case assembly (A).
- Remove the side bearing by using the bearing puller.NOTE:
- Use a new bearing when reinstalling.
- Remove the lock nut (A).
- Loosen the bolts and then remove the pinion cage (A).
- Remove the pinion cage O-ring (A).
- Remove the pinion cage shim (A).
- Remove the pinion drive gear (A) by using the press.
- Remove the spacer (A) from the pinion drive gear.
- Remove the pinion rear bearing from the pinion drive gear by using the bearing puller.
- Remove the companion flange (A).
- Remove the pinion oil seal (A) from the pinion cage and then remove the pinion front bearing (B).
- Remove the pinion front & rear bearing race (A) by using the hammer and chisel.
- Remove the side bearing race (A) from the differential carrier.
- Remove the differential carrier oil seal (A).
