Cowl Cross Bar Assembly: Replacement

CAUTION:
  • When removing with a flat - tip screwdriver or remover, wrap protective tape around the tools to prevent damage to components.
  • Put on gloves to prevent hand injuries.
NOTE:
  • Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.
  1. Remove the main crash pad assembly.

    (Refer to Crash Pad - "MAIN CRASH PAD ASSEMBLY ")

  2. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to "COWL TOP COVER ")

  3. Remove the front wiper motor.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "FRONT WIPER MOTOR ")

  4. Remove both sides of front seat assembly.

    (Refer to Front Seat - "FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY ")

  5. Remove the cowl side trim.

    (Refer to Interior Trim - "COWL SIDE TRIM ")

  6. Remove the accelerator pedal module.

    (Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR (APS) ")

  7. Disconnect the smart key antenna connector (A).

  8. Disconnect the airbag control module (SRSCM) connector (A).

  9. Remove the rear air duct (B) and then separate the floor carpet (A) backwards.

  10. Remove the rear heating duct (A).

  11. Loosen the mounting nuts and through bolts in the frontal area and lower the steering column.

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN & SHAFT ")

  12. Disconnect the connector (A) and the mounting wiring fasteners in the front pillar.

  13. Disconnect the passenger compartment junction box connectors (A).

  14. Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

  15. Loosen the mounting screw, remove the shower duct (A).

  16. Disconnect the heater and blower unit connectors.

    1. Disconnect the console temperature control actuator connector (A) and console ON/OFF actuator connector (B).

    2. Disconnect the evaporator temperature sensor connector (A).

    3. Disconnect the joint connector (A).

    1. Disconnect the console mode control actuator connector (A).

    3. Disconnect the passenger mode control actuator connector (A) and passenger temperature control actuator connector (B).

    4. Disconnect the power mosfet connector (A).

    5. Disconnect the heater control unit connector (A).

    6. Disconnect the intake actuator connector (A).

    7. Disconnect the blower motor connector (A).

  17. Remove the plug hole (A) and then loosen the mounting bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    16.7 - 25.5 N.m (1.7 - 2.6 kgf.m, 12.3 - 18.8 lb-ft)

  18. Loosen the engine room cowl cross bar assembly mounting bolts (A).

  19. Loosen the heater & blower unit mounting bolt (A).

  20. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the cowl cross bar assembly (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    16.7 - 25.5 N.m (1.7 - 2.6 kgf.m, 12.3 - 18.8 lb-ft)

  21. To install, reverse removal procedure.

    Information 

    • Make sure the crash pad fits onto the guide pins correctly.
    • Before tightening the bolts, make sure the crash pad wire harnesses are not pinched.
    • Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead is connected properly.
    • Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.
    • Make sure that each of the assembly components operates properly.
    • Replace any damaged clips (or pin-type retainers).
