Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
  2. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from the front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire.
  3. Loosen the driveshaft caulking nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • The front hub lock nut should be replaced with new ones.
    • After installation of lock nut, stake the lock nut using a chisel and hammer as shown in the illustration below.

      Caulking depth:  1.5 mm (0.591 in.)

  4. Remove the brake caliper assembly.

    (Refer to Brake System - "FRONT DISC BRAKE ")

  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor (A) and wheel speed sensor cable bracket (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 10.8N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)

  6. Using a plastic hammer, disconnect driveshaft (A) from the axle hub.

  7. Remove the brake hose mounting bracket from the knuckle.

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)

  8. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B) and washer (C).
    3. Disconnect the ball joint from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

      Tightening torque: 

      88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  9. Using the special tool (09568-2J100), remove the lateral arm from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B) and washer (C).
    3. Remove the lateral arm from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

      Tightening torque: 

      88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  10. Using the special tool (09568-2J100), remove the compression arm from the knuckle.

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B) and washer (C).
    3. Remove the compression arm from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

  11. Using the special tool (09568-2J100), separate the upper arm from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B).
    3. Remove the upper arm from knuckle using the special tool (09568-2J100).

      Tightening torque: 

      78.5 - 88.3 N.m (8.0 - 9.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 65.1 lb-ft)

  12. Loosen the bolt and nut, separate the front shock absorber assembly from the lower arm.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

  13. Remove the driveshaft (LH) by loosening the mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    53.9 - 63.7 N.m (5.5 - 6.5 kgf.m, 39.8 - 47.0 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the boots when removing the driveshaft assembly.
  14. Insert a pry bar between the transaxle case and joint case, and separate the drive shaft from the transaxle case.[RH]
    NOTE:
    • Use a pry bar (A) being careful not to damage the transaxle and joint.
    • Do not insert the pry bar (A) too deep, as this may cause damage to the oil seal.
    • Do not pull the driveshaft by excessive force it may cause components inside the joint kit to dislodge resulting in a torn boot or a damaged bearing.
    • Plug the hole of the transaxle case with the oil seal cap to prevent contamination.
    • Support the driveshaft properly.
    • Replace the retainer ring whenever the driveshaft is removed from the transaxle case.
  15. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  16. Check the front alignment.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT ALIGNMENT ")
