Variable fuel pump system controls fuel feed rate of low pressure fuel pump by pulse with modulate (PWM) control in accordance with RPM, road.
It has following positive aspects compared with mechanically regulated fuel pump: low current consumption as it optimizes fuel feed rate, higher fuel efficiency, low pump noise, longer lifetime of the fuel pump.
ECM sets target fuel pressure and sends it to fuel pump control module (FECM).
FECM controls low pressure fuel pump by three phase duty control to adjust actual to target pressure based on fuel pressure sensor.
