Removal And Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  3. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  5. Remove the RH rear strut bar cover (A).

  6. Remove the engine control module (ECM) cover (A).

  7. Remove the LH rear strut bar cover (A).

  8. Disconnect the wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Disconnect the engine control module (ECM) connector (A).
    2. Disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) connector (B).
    3. Disconnect the wiring protector (C).

      Tightening torque: 

      4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

  9. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "COWL TOP COVER ")

  10. Disconnect the wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Disconnect the front control connector (A).
    2. Disconnect the starter motor ground cable (B).
    3. Disconnect the alternator ground cable (C).
    4. Disconnect the wiring protector (D).

      Tightening torque 

      Bolt: 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)

      Nut: 4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

  11. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  12. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  13. Remove the engine room bulkhead (A).

  14. Remove the water outlet pipe (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb-ft)

  15. Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the wiring protector around the water temperature control assembly.

  16. Disconnect the bypass hose (A).

  17. Disconnect the oil cooler hose (A) and electric throttle body control (ETC) module water hose (B).

  18. Remove the water temperature control assembly (A) with gasket.

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolts:

    14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb-ft)

    Nuts:

    19.6 - 23.5 N.m (2.0 - 2.4 kgf.m, 14.5 - 17.4 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Always use a new water temperature control assembly gasket.
  19. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  20. Fill the radiator with coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling system - "COOLANT ")

  21. Start engine and check for leaks.
  22. Recheck the coolant level.
