Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  • To release the fuel system pressure before removing the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay, and then turn off the ignition switch when the engine stops.

Information 

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  3. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  6. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  7. Disconnect the radiator lower hose quick connector (A).

  8. Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses (A). [AT Type]

  9. Remove the intercooler hose and pipe.
    1. Disconnect the recirculation valve connector (A) and the vacuum hose (B).

    2. Remove the intercooler inlet hose and pipe (A).

      Tightening torque 

      Nuts (B):  14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb-ft)

      Nut (C):  14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb-ft)

    3. Disconnect the booster pressure sensor connector (A).

    4. Remove the intercooler outlet hose and pipe (A).

      Tightening torque 

      Hose clamp:

      4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb-ft)

      (If equipped with a cap, tighten it until the cap is removed.)

      Bolt:

      14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb-ft)

  10. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).
  11. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (C).

  13. Remove the RH rear strut bar cover (A).

  14. Remove the engine control module (ECM) cover (A).

  16. Disconnect the wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Disconnect the engine control module (ECM) connector (A).
    2. Disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) connector (B).
    3. Disconnect the wiring protector (C).

      Tightening torque: 

      4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

  17. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "COWL TOP COVER ")

  18. Disconnect the wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Disconnect the front control connector (A).
    2. Disconnect the starter motor ground cable (B).
    3. Disconnect the alternator ground cable (C).
    4. Disconnect the wiring protector (D).

      Tightening torque 

      Bolt: 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)

      Nut: 4.9 - 7.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.8 lb-ft)

  19. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  20. Disconnect the engine ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  21. Recover the refrigerant and then remove the high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")

  22. Disconnect the parking cable from the automatic transmission. [AT Type]

    (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "PARKING RELEASE CABLE ")

    Disconnect the base bracket and select rod from the manual transmission. [MT Type]

    (Refer to Manual Transmission System - "SHIFT LEVER ")

  23. Disconnect the clutch tube clip and then remove the clutch tube from the concentric slave cylinder. [MT Type]

    (Refer to Clutch System - "CLUTCH TUBE ")

  24. Remove the front muffler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")

  25. Remove the propeller shaft from the transmission.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ")

  26. Remove the front wheel.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")

  27. Disconnect the universal joint from the shaft joint.

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT ")

  28. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT HUB/KNUCKLE ")

  29. Remove the stabilizer link from the front shock absorber assembly.

    (Refer to Suspension System - FRONT STABILIZER BAR ")

  30. Remove front driveshaft from the front axle. (If equipped with AWD system)

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  31. Remove the lateral arm and compression arm from the sub frame.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT LOWER ARM ")

  32. Disconnect the transmission ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  33. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack and then remove the sub frame mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    176.5 - 196.1 N.m (18.0 - 20.0 kgf.m, 130.2 - 144.7 lb-ft)

  34. Remove the transmission mounting assembly bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)

  35. Remove the engine and transmission assembly by lifting vehicle.

    NOTE:
    • Before removing the engine and transmission assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
    • When removing the engine and transmission assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
  36. Remove the engine assembly from the sub frame.
    1. Remove the LH/RH engine mounting assembly fixing nut (A).

      Tightening torque: 

      63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb.ft)

    2. Hook the engine hoist to the hole of engine hanger.
    3. Remove the engine assembly form the sub frame by lifting up the engine hoist.
