Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor. As temperature increases, the resistance of the sensor decreases.
Circuit/System Description - Temperature Sensor
The TCM provides a signal circuit for each of the temperature sensors, and a low reference circuit. The signal circuit input to the control module has an internal resistance connected to a 5 V reference. As the temperature sensor resistance changes, the voltage drop across the temperature sensor changes. The TCM monitors the voltage and calculates the temperature of the sensor.
The B13 Transmission Fluid Temperature sensor is located so it contacts the transmission fluid. The transmission fluid temperature is one of the inputs the TCM uses to determine correct transmission control.
The TCM temperature and power up temperature sensors are located internal to the TCM. The TCM will shut down to prevent damage if excessive temperature is detected.
