Input Speed Sensor (ISS)
The input speed sensor (ISS) is a hall-effect type sensor. The ISS mounts to the transmission case assembly and connects to the control solenoid valve assembly through a wire harness and connector. The sensor faces the 3-5-R clutch piston housing machined teeth surface. The 3-5-R/4-5-6 rotates together with the turbine shaft.
Circuit/System Description - ISS
The TCM provides an 8.6 volt reference circuit and a signal circuit to the ISS. As the 3-5-R/4-5-6 clutch housing rotates, the sensor detects the change in the magnetic field as the machined teeth pass the sensor. The sensor produces a signal frequency based on the rotational speed of the housing. The TCM uses the signal to determine turbine shaft speed. The turbine shaft speed is one of the inputs the TCM uses to determine correct line pressure, transmission shift patterns, torque converter clutch slip speed and gear ratio.
