NOTE:
All GM dealers must use genuine GM fuses on the vehicles they service. You should also encourage the use of GM fuses to your customers to assure they are getting the proper electrical system protection.
NOTE:
Use the recommended fuse puller tool (check the owner's manual for its location) to pull any small amperage fuses. Use this tool to prevent damage to the fuse or its terminals.
The fuse is the most common method of an automotive wiring circuit protection. Whenever there is an excessive amount of current flowing through a circuit the fusible element will melt and create an open or incomplete circuit. Fuses are a one time protection device and must be replaced each time the circuit is overloaded.
To determine if a bladed fuse is open, do NOT remove the fuse first; check the continuity of the blade fuse using a Digital Multimeter (DMM) or a continuity tester (Test Lamp) by testing at the testing points at the top of the bladed fuse. If the Digital Multimeter reads an open circuit, or Test Lamp does not light up, replace the fuse with one of equal current rating. For J or M case fuses, look at the band inside the fuse. If the band is broken or melted, replace the damaged fuse with one of equal current rating.
