Circuit / System Testing

Head - Up Display = Inoperative

1. Ignition / Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ P29 Head - Up Display
3. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
   • If 10 Ω or greater 
   1. Ignition OFF.
   2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open / high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, repair the open / high resistance in the ground connection.
   • Go to next step: If less than 10 Ω 
4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
5. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
   • If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good 
   1. Test B+ circuit for an open / high resistance.
      • If an open / high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If an open / high resistance is not found.
   2. Replace the X51A Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Junction Block.
   • If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open 
   1. Test B+ circuit for a short to ground.
      • If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If a short to ground is not found.
   2. Replace the P29 Head - Up Display.
   • Go to next step: If the test lamp illuminates 
6. Replace the component: Low - Voltage Differential Signaling Cable @ P29 Head - Up Display & A11 Radio
7. Connect the component: P29 Head - Up Display
8. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
9. Perform the scan tool function: Head - Up Display Pattern Check
10. Verify the component activates: P29 Head - Up Display
    • If the specified state 

      All OK.

    • Go to next step: If not the specified state 
11. Replace the component: P29 Head - Up Display
12. Verify the component activates: P29 Head - Up Display
    • If the specified state 

      All OK.

    • Go to next step: If not the specified state 
13. Replace the component: A11 Radio

Inoperative Head - Up Display Switch

1. Replace the P29 Head - Up Display.
2. Verify the P29 Head - Up Display performs the following functions while selecting the appropriate state on the P53 Driver Information Display:
   • DIM + Switch - Head - up display brightness increases
   • DIM - Switch - Head - up display brightness decreases
   • UP Switch - Head - up display image moves up
   • DOWN Switch - Head - up display image moves down
   • INFO Switch - Head - up display image changes pages
   • If the P29 Head - Up Display does not perform the expected function with the switch in the appropriate state 

     Replace the component: A11 Radio

   • Go to next step: If the P29 Head - Up Display performs the expected function with the switch in the appropriate state 
3. All OK.
